Teachers all across the valley of the sun in Arizona have united to schedule frequent walkouts over the past 2 months. The educators of the state of Arizona all banned together on Facebook to plan the walkouts. Facebook groups and hashtags with the “#RedForEd” phrase have been widespread on social media and even on cars across the valley. The color red has also had a large influence on the movement, with each supporter wearing red colored shirts to spread awareness. Students, teachers, parents and supporters have all united to walk to the state capitol of Arizona.

The reason for the walkouts are due to teacher salary, which is among the lowest in the United States of America with a salary of less than $35,000 a year. The proposal that educators are proposing to Governor Doug Ducey is to raise their salary significantly within the next few years. The walkouts have all consisted of picket signs, banners, shirts with written statements, shouting phrases, and support from various activists within the past few weeks. Since the many walkouts over the past 5 to 6 weeks, Governor of Arizona Doug Ducey has stated that he has a plan to raise educators’ salary by 20% by 2020.
